Some of the organisations we work with include:

Impact-focused skills development

We specialise in training that equips researchers with the tools, skills and confidence in the areas we’ve identified to be most directly linked to delivering increased levels of innovation, knowledge exchange and impact.
We focus on 3 key competency areas:

Effective communication is fundamental to delivering impact. Whether it’s translating research into simple language, delivering engaging presentations or being able to speak the “language of business”. We have a range of programmes that help make researchers more effective communicators.

The ability to translate research into commercial opportunity is more important than ever. There are proven tools, frameworks and processes that can be used to extract commercial value from research. We have a range of programmes to help researchers embark on their commercialisation journey with confidence.

It’s impossible to deliver meaningful impact without collaboration. Whether it’s engaging with partners, funders, customers, policymakers, the public or other researchers. We offer a range of programmes that teach researchers how to build and nurture valuable long-term relationships with key stakeholders.

Programme Types

We offer 3 key types of programmes, each designed to deliver specific objectives.
Most programmes can be delivered on-line or in-person.

SPARK programmes are quick-hit skills development programmes designed to help participants learn specific skills, frameworks or tools. They typically are delivered in 90-minute, ½ day or Full-Day formats and can be delivered in-person or on-line.

IMPACT programmes are deep-dive programmes that bring together multiple competency areas to focus on delivering specific outcomes and meaningful behaviour and mindset changes. They include on-demand learning, live workshops and speakers.

ACCELERATE programmes are highly focused programmes designed to help individuals and teams accelerate the development of a specific project. These programmes typically involve a combination of skills development and implementation coaching.

Our programmes are designed, delivered and driven by participant success

What this programme offers, as attendees prepare to transition out of the post-doc years is beyond compare. I only wish I could have attended when I was a PhD student, making the move into both advising industry in my specialist research area, and self-employment nearly 20 years ago. Skillfluence have cracked a tough nut in this offering.

Suzanne Doyle Morris
CEO of Inclusiq

It was a really useful experience for me. I’ve gained a huge amount of skills to help further my research. It’s really going to help me to plan out what industry could need in the future.

John Phelan

You were awesome at facilitating the workshops. I loved the way you skilfully ensured we kept on track and achieved the learning outcomes. As an entrepreneur and researcher, I loved the session and will definitely be part of my toolbox. Thanks again!

Joojo Kye-Sarpong, PhD Student
University of Sunderland

I thought the course was very good and useful, the idea generation side of the course was fantastic, I felt this was an area I was already strong in and so surprised by how much I got out of it, I will definitely be using these techniques going forward.

Jamie Kelly, Scientist
The Pirbright Institute

This course has completely changed my attitude to commercialisation – you can be both academic and an innovator, and I now know who to speak to pursue potential commercialisation opportunities, and understand the immense value of networks.

Northern Accelerator

The breakout room activities provided a platform to speak with colleagues from across Faculties and other Departments. Currently we are working hard within our own Departmental silos but this experience revealed how many colleagues across the University are sharing the same challenges, while managing a host of competing priorities. There is strength in numbers, united in the moment.
